How We Categorize Businesses
Bike Friendly
Business has acceptable bike parking on premises, and should be in a generally bike-friendly area.
Family Friendly
Must allow minors and have seating options outside of high-tops and bar seating. If the business has a food menu, it should contain kid-friendly options.
Free Wifi
Internet connectivity is offered to all patrons without being behind an ISP or pay-for-time paywall.
Games
Bar: Billiards, darts, tabletop shuffleboard, or other similar bar games are available to play.
Arcade: Business has arcade games on-site, such as cabinets, pinball, skeeball, etc.
Tabletop: Business offers free play of tabletop games such as cards or board games.
Yard: Business has yard games available to play, such as cornhole, giant connect-four, giant jenga, etc.
Guest Taps
Business regularly features tap offerings not from their brewery.
Pet Friendly
Non-service-animal pets are allowed to enter the building.
Brewery & Restaurant
Business is both a brewery and a restaurant, with more of the feel of a restaurant than a brewery. Expect to be seated, receive table service, and experience a typical restaurant meal with in-house brews.
Brewpub
Brewery with in-house food, but the focus is on the beer. Less-extensive menus could be common, and you may need to order at the bar.
Taproom
The sole experience is around the drinks. Food may consist of snacks, food trucks, or whatever you brought with you.
Barrel-Aged Options
Brewery regularly has at least one barrel-aged option on tap.
Ciders
At least one cider is regularly offered on tap.
Cocktails
Basic: Low-complexity cocktails available. May have a menu offering various classics.
Non-Alcoholic: Zero-proof or spirit-substituted cocktails are regularly available.
Specialty: Rotating, seasonal, or specialty cocktails regularly offered, designed in-house.
Coffee
At least one coffee-based, non-alcoholic beverage is regularly available.
Gluten-Reduced Beer
At least two low-gluten or gluten-free beer options are regularly available on tap.
Guest Taps
Tap offerings from other breweries are regularly on the menu.
Kombucha
One or more options of kombucha are regularly offered either on tap or in containers.
Low-ABV Options
Minimum of one tap regularly offering a beer with ABV no higher than 4.5%.
Meads
One or more mead options are available either on tap or in containers.
Non-Alcoholic Beer
Brewery brews its own or offers commercial non-alcoholic malt beverages.
Reinheitsgebot
Brewery heavily features beers that follow German Beer Purity Law. I.e: created with only water, yeast, grain, and hops.
Seltzers
House-made hard seltzers are available either on tap or in containers.
Soda
Commercial: Normal soda offerings include cans, bottles, or fountain options of nationally-available sodas.
Craft: Soda offerings include locally- or regionally-distributed sodas, or those made in-house.
Spirits
Mezcal: At least 5 different tequila or mezcal offerings are available in non-cocktail formats.
Whiskey: At least 5 different whiskey, bourbon, or scotch offerings are available in non-cocktail formats.
Wild Beers
At least one regularly-offered beer option that is the product of spontaneous fermentation, wild yeast, or Brettanomyces.
Wine
Two or more options of wine, of which at least one is red and at least one is white.
Delivery Deals
Business has standing deals with one or more nearby restaurants for food delivery.
Food Trucks
Daily: One or more food trucks are scheduled or present with no more than two days missed per week.
Regular: One or more food trucks are scheduled or present at least two days per week.
Occasional: Food trucks may be present every other week or for special events.
Full Dining Menu
Food menu offers side items or appetizers and at least two different categories of entrées. For example: sides, pizzas, and sandwiches.
Limited Menu
Only one type of entrée offered. Sides or appetizers may or may not be present.
Outside Food Welcome
Business allows patrons to bring food from other establishments.
Restaurant
The business is at least equal parts restaurant and brewery, if not outright a restaurant OR the business has a restaurant on-site.
Snacks Available
Snack items are available, either for free or for purchase. I.E: Popcorn, chips, peanuts, etc.
Booths
Seating options include tables with at least one side containing raised-back bench seats.
Communal Seating
One or more tables are capable of seating a minimum of 10 peoples comfortably.
High-Tops
Bar- or standing-height tables are available aside from seating at the bar.
Lounge
Upholstered seating such as couches or armchairs are available.
Multiple Bars
Bar seating is available aside from the main bar, regardless of whether or not they are tended.
Outdoor Seating
Covered: Some outdoor seating has temporary or permanent cover from rain and sun.
Uncovered: Some outdoor seating has no form of cover from rain and sun.
Tables
Business offers standard table seating with individual chairs.
Bombers
Bottles over 16oz are available for purchase.
Build-Your-Own Packs
Individual bottles or cans can be combined by the customer to create their own four- or six-packs.
Crowlers
Cans of at least 16oz capacity available for to-go purchase.
Growler Refills
Brewery allows patrons to bring their own sealable container to be filled.
Growler Sales
Glass or stainless-steel vessels are available for sale and fill on-site.
Premade Packs
Four- or six-packs are available for purchase on-site.
